The project
This set of two chandeliers made of kiln formed glass and brass takes place in the choir and the nave of the Holy Chapel of the castle of the Dukes of Savoy in Chambery (France).
A powerful design
The remarkable structure of the ribs of the vault required a creation capable of responding to their visual power. Composed of arms that interpenetrate like arches, the chandeliers create an ensemble where their internal lines of force respond to those of the vaults.
Large kiln formed glass blades extend the ends of each arm. Their fluid and flexible pattern, which echoes the movements of a drapery, reminds us that the chapel housed the Holy Shroud in the 16th century. Their triangular shape is a response to the Gothic-inspired trompe-l’oeil fillings that decorate the vaults.
Seen from below, the lighting fixtures blend into the vigorous movement of these Gothic arcatures.
Thanks to its light and airy structure, this composition allows, despite its monumental dimensions, to preserve a total visibility of the Renaissance stained-glass windows and decorations.

The Holy Chapel
Heritage monument – XV th century
The Holy Chapel, the most remarkable building in the castle of the Dukes of Savoy, has benefited from a major renovation of its exterior, including its baroque facade, and interior. In the choir, the exceptional Renaissance glass windows have been completely restored, while the large trompe-l’oeil decoration of the vault has been restored to its full beauty.
