Liturgical furniture of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Stains
Stains, France

GLASS
LITURGICAL FURNITURE

The project
This original design takes place in the choir of the church, and is composed of the altar, the ambo and the celebrant chair.
Mainly made of kiln formed glass, an exceptionally rare case for liturgical furniture, they complement four large chandeliers also designed for the building.
The Altar
In the centre, a Christ in glory celebrates the Paschal Meal, surrounded by his twelve disciples.
On the sides, the Angel of the Annunciation, with a lily in his hand, responds to the Angel of the Coronation of the Virgin.
The ambo
The glass figures of the four evangelists radiate from the central gilded metal cross.
The Celebrant Chair
It remains simple in its design. The dove of the Holy Spirit is on her back.
Glass : the light of the Spirit
Glass, whose reflections change constantly with the day’s light, helps to give substance to the luminous dimension of the Spirit.
A lighting is integrated inside the altar.

Our Lady of the Assumption Church
Heritage monument – XVI th century
The rebirth of a church
The oldest building in the commune, the church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Stains (France) was completed in 1560 and houses a high altar and an altarpiece classified as a Historical Monument. Closed since 1995, an exceptional renovation project was undertaken in 2012 by the municipality, which mobilized more than twenty different trades, and thus saved the building from destruction.
The restoration of Our Lady of the Assumption Church was awarded Le Geste d’Or Jury Special Prize 2014.
